Salah al-Aruri, a senior Hamas operative, once granted an interview to Gal Berger, Israel Radio's Palestinian affairs correspondent. In eloquent Hebrew, al-Aruri said that the value of human life as seen through the eyes of Israeli society is a source of its strength. As the enemy, al-Aruri would prefer to see Israeli society divorce itself from this value even at the price of refusing to release Palestinian prisoners in exchange for a captive Israeli soldier.
